Bright Ideas for Tennis Day

On Saturday 18th July, Home Park Lawn Tennis Club welcomed former Davis Cup players Danny Sapsford and Alex Slabinsky to the Club to host a day of coaching for all ages and abilities.

It was a jam packed day with beginners working on their coordination, ball skills and groundstrokes and the more advanced working on their doubles court positioning. Following the coaching sessions, players had the opportunity to test the speed of their serve. The day ended with an exhibition match between Danny and Alex and the then Club Singles Champions, Pete Blanshard and Anna Lawler, with others having the opportunity to test their newly learnt skills against the pair afterwards.

Altogether 30 children and 24 adults took part in the day. The proceeds from the entry fee, BBQ, bar and raffle raised almost £650 which will go towards the club’s fundraising appeal for a new clubhouse following the damage it received in the 2014 floods.

HPLTC were lucky enough to be invited to another Bright Ideas for Tennis event earlier in the year when four members of the club took part in a 24 hour tennis marathon playing Danny and other former Davis Cup players at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton. The charity, which is run by Danny, aims to help generate funds for tennis clubs with projects to improve facilities or membership. Thanks Danny and the team. We all had a fantastic day!
