Outstanding Achievement Award

Club Chairman and Coach Jane Rowlands has been awarded the LTA County Aegon Outstanding Achievement Award for the fantastic work she has done to save Windsor’s only grass court tennis club in the unique location, in the shadow of Windsor Castle.

Jane, was nominated by Club member and 2016 Home Park Ladies Singles Champion, Julia Perry, in recognition of the her work to save the club.

In 2008, Jane accepted the challenge of reviving a failing tennis club that had dwindled to just nine members. The Royal Borough had proposed closure of the Club, turning the 7 seven grass courts into a car park.

During the past eight years, Jane has worked tirelessly to encourage participation from all ages and abilities. She has developed a coaching programme and introduced Open American tournaments, Cardio tennis and set up one of the courts as 4 mini-red courts for both junior and touchtennis. As a result of her efforts, Home Park Lawn Tennis Club has expanded to 80 members.

Jane commented, ‘It’s wonderful to have so many involved in tennis in such a stunning location. The successful and vibrant club has become a very happy social hub for many members with new people joining each year.’

Additionally, Jane has led the fundraising efforts for a new Clubhouse following damage to the existing clubhouse during severe flooding in 2014.

By winning the Outstanding Achievement Award for the LTA Berkshire County Jane will now be entered for the Regional Awards. She intends to make Windsor Home Park Lawn Tennis Club a Centre of Excellence for grass court tennis, and hopes that a success in the Regional Awards will shine a spotlight on her fundraising efforts for the club.
