24 Hour Tennis Challenge

Home Park Lawn Tennis Club was invited to take part in a unique tennis challenge to help raise vital funds for a new Clubhouse, after the current one flooded twice 2013/2014.

On 21st February 2015 members from the Club took part in the 24 hour tennis marathon at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton, playing against Davis Cup players.

The event was organised by British tennis charity, Bright Ideas for Tennis, a charity dedicated towards increasing participation in the game, as well as improving club facilities.

Former World No 170, Danny Sapsford played for 24 hours from 12.00 on the 21st February. Danny was joined by his Bright Ideas partner, Stuart Rhodes, and other Davis Cup players including Jamie Baker. Members from 12 Clubs in Berkshire and Surrey were invited to be the opposition during the challenge.

Each of the 12 Clubs taking part played a 4 hour slot to provide the opposition for the Pro players; this was a gruelling challenge for the amateur club players. Club members, Luke Beckley, Russell Connor, Toby Warren (Windsor Boys’ School pupil) and Vicky Bruce were invited to take part in the exciting event.

During the last 15 minutes of each 4 hour slot there was a serving competition. Two members took part in the competition against a Davis Cup player to hit targets when serving. The youngest member of the Home Park team, Toby Warren, was selected to serve on behalf of our club and hit a serve at a whopping 80.78mph!

It was a great afternoon of tennis, really enjoyed by everyone who took part.

The Club raised a total of £1,388.97 from the event; there’s still a long way to go to reach our £120,000 target!
